1. Who answers the submitted requests?
House Plans Advisor is run by volunteers who take their personal time to answer visitor questions and help them find the best house plans for their needs and budget. They are our experts and all requests are subject to their individual discretion.
2. Will you publish all requests submitted to you?
No. Unfortunately, sometimes the submitted requests are poorly written or contain too little information to be worthy of publishing. Othertimes, we receive so many good requests at once that we simply cannot publish them all right away. So, while we do our best to publish all worthy submissions, please don’t take it personally if your requests remains unpublished or it takes us too much time to get to it.
3. How can I make sure my request will get published?
Give us enough of details and make it interesting to read. We like to receive requests that are comprehensive and challenging. The more time you put into writing it, the more likely it is to get our attention.
4. What information should I include in my request?
You should include everything an architect would ask you when designing a custom-built home for you. For example:
- Who and how many are you? (Newly weds, retired couple, single mother, etc.? Any children? Elderly parents to take care of? Guests to stay overnight? etc.)
- When and how frequently will the house be used? (All-year-round? Summer? Winter? Vacation?)
- How do you live; what’s your lifestyle? (How much privacy? How do you entertain? Do you work at/from home? Formal or more relaxed setting? Large open spaces or small intimate places? Use of outdoor space? Any hobbies or special interests that require additional space? etc.)
- Where will the house be built? (Lot location? Lot size? Maximum allowable width and depth of the house? Sloping lot: which way? Corner lot? Sun orientation? Neighbors? Views? Important limitations? Communications access? etc.)
- What do you want to see in your plan and why? (Number of rooms and bathrooms? House style? Plan shape? Number of floors? Overall square footage? Position of rooms? Basement options? Special features: fire places, vaulted ceilings, wrap-around porch, etc.)
5. Will you edit my request?
Yes, maybe. Please recognize that making House Plans Advisor a useful resource requires us to exercise broad editorial discretion in determining what requests we accept and how we present them on our site. Please recognize that we may reject, delete, or edit any request in our sole discretion.
6. How will I know you have accepted my request?
Unfortunately, we don’t have sufficient resources to be able to send you a personal notification about the status of your request. Therefore, your best chance is to subscribe to our RSS feed or periodically visit our home page.
7. How long will it take for you to publish my request?
Often, as little as 24 hours (or less). However, please allow 3-5 days for us to process our backlog. If your request does not appear on our site after one week, it’s possible that we decided not to publish it. In such a case, feel free to re-submit an improved version.
